Celebrating International Day of Peace with "Wave Goodbye to Dinosaurs"

24 October 2023On 21 September 2023, International Day of Peace, the Embassy partnered with the Directorate for Gender and Diversity in the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship to screen the documentary “Wave Goodbye to Dinosaurs”. The event took place during the year that marks the 25th Anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement.

The documentary tells the story of the Northern Ireland Women’s Coalition, an all-female, cross-community political party established in Northern Ireland in 1996. The Coalition was formed to contest elections to the Northern Ireland Forum for Political Dialogue as part of the process of negotiations that eventually led to the Good Friday Agreement in 1998.

The event, attended by approximately 100 people, was opened with short remarks from the Director of Gender & Diversity at the Ministry, Silvina Montenegro, and from Ambassador Gerard McCoy. In his remarks, Ambassador McCoy highlighted the vital role played by women and by the international community in securing the signing of the Good Friday Agreement; many representatives from the latter were in attendance at the event.
