May 2020 Newsletter

May 2020 Newsletter

We have been reaching out to Irish community organisations across the Southeast and we have been heartened to hear of the steps being taken to support our community during this challenging time.

This month’s newsletter is dedicated to the Irish communities of the Southeast U.S. We are deeply proud of how our people and organisations have responded to the challenges presented by COVID-19. It is available here.

Irish organisations have found innovative ways to continue to operate virtually, to reach out to our people who are at risk of isolation or despair and to support the vulnerable of all backgrounds. Community leaders have delivered messages of hope and encouragement that have had real impact.  Many members of our diaspora have also served the common good, often heroically, as front line medical, police, teaching or retail staff, and in so many other areas of essential service provision.

Apart from focusing on our community, this month’s newsletter gives a flavour of the Irish Government response to COVID-19 at home and abroad and our consulate services. We also recall the historic visit of Eamon de Valera, the first elected leader of the Irish people, to the Southeast in April 1920 and present some of the best new digital resources available from Ireland.
