WELCOME MESSAGE

A Chairde, Dear Friends,

Fáilte and Welcome to the Embassy of Ireland in Thailand.

It is an honour and privilege to lead a very talented and dedicated team representing Ireland here in the Kingdom of Thailand.

Thailand is a country of great history, heritage and culture, and it is a powerful and influential player in this region and on the world stage.

The Irish Embassy in Bangkok is very active on a range of different levels and in many areas of engagement.  Our work is guided by key Irish Government Strategies and Policies including our Global Ireland Strategy, our Asia-Pacific Strategy, our Trade and Investment Strategy – ‘Value for Ireland, Values for the World’, and our Diaspora Policy.

First and foremost, our role is focused on working to support Our People through the delivery of excellent consular and passport services, support for Irish community organisations, activities and initiatives, and the promotion of Irish culture.

A second priority is work in support of Our Prosperity

Which we do through the provision of relevant and timely support to Irish companies and clients and partners with business interests in Ireland, working closely with our colleagues in Team Ireland in the region – Enterprise Ireland, the Irish Food Board and IDA Ireland.

A third focus of our work is the promotion of Our Values.  Ireland wants to make a difference for the world in areas such as disarmament, conflict resolution and peacekeeping, human rights, transnational crime, climate change and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These are all issues on which we engage actively with Thailand, bilaterally and as fellow members of the United Nations.

In all that we do, we are always conscious of our place at the heart of Our European Union.  We want to make a substantial, constructive and positive contribution to shaping EU policies and approaches, and we want to ensure that our society and economy continues to enjoy the enormous benefits that flow from being part of the EU family.

Over my time in Bangkok, I will be working tirelessly with my local team and with the wider regional Team Ireland across our six missions in South East Asia to advance our interests in all of these key areas.

In these efforts, we greatly value our collaboration with the Irish community here in Thailand and the support and cooperation of our Thai partners and friends.

The Embassy team looks forward to continuing to work together to strengthen further the already strong and positive relations between Ireland and the Kingdom of Thailand.

Le gach dea – ghuí
