Advice for Irish fans

UEFA European Championship Qualifying Round Copenhagen, June 2019

On 7 June 2019, Copenhagen’s Telia Parken will host the Ireland-Denmark qualifying match as part of the UEFA European Championship.  This page is intended as an advisory for Irish citizens who are travelling to Copenhagen for this matches.

Know Before You Go: Travel Tips

• Get comprehensive travel and medical insurance before travelling and check what it covers.
• Travel with your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) which can be applied for through the HSE.
• Keep your passport in a safe place: carry your passport card on you or a photocopy of your passport. If you haven’t got a passport card, find out how to apply at https://www.dfa.ie/passportcard/.  
• Fill in the emergency contact details option on your passport.
• Keep your valuables in a safe place.
• Keep one of your bank cards and some cash separate from the rest of your valuables and avoid carrying too many valuables with you.
• Beware of pick pockets in crowds, restaurants, cafés, on public transport, near ATMs and never leave your bag or belongings out of sight or unattended. 
• Let people know where you are and make sure you know where your friends are.
• Travel well in advance to the stadium. Be aware that there will be extensive security checks when entering the stadium.

Fixture and Tourist Information

On Friday 7 June, the Republic of Ireland will face Denmark as part of the UEFA European Championship qualifying rounds at 20:45 local time in Copenhagens Telia Parken.

Security: general information

You should exercise caution in large gatherings; be careful with your personal belongings, remain calm in crowds, respect the crowd restrictions at some locations and follow the instructions of the local authorities and the event organisers. Please be aware that, while crime rates are low, pick pockets may target this event.  

Security: Telia Parken

You should allow plenty of time for all travel, in particular to the stadium – it is advised supporters arrive 1.5 - 2 hours in advance of matches.  Some vehicle restrictions are likely to be in place in the area surrounding the stadium, and citizens are encouraged to travel to the stadium by public transport or on foot.

You are advised not to bring large bags to the stadium, and to take good care of your valuables. 

Transportation

The stadium is located at Per Henrik Lings Allé 2, 2100 Copenhagen, in the part of the city known as Oesterbro. Copenhagen’s main means of transport are busses, metro and the S+trains, however many bike shops allow for bike rental and you can rent a bike form the city on this website https://bycyklen.dk/en/ There are three train stations nearby which service the reginal trains (s-tog or s-train) Østerport, Svanemøllen and Ryparken all of them are within 1,5 Kilometres of the stadium.

Emergency Consular Assistance

If you experience a consular emergency, please do not hesitate to contact the Embassy of Ireland, Copenhagen (see ‘Useful Contacts’).  Calls outside of normal office hours regarding genuine emergencies will be directed to a voice messaging service, which is monitored by a Duty Officer.  Information regarding the types of consular assistance we can offer are available on our website, here.

Money

Danish Kroner (DKK) is the currency in Denmark. Some places accept Euro but exchange rates may not necessarily be favorable and no place is obliged to accept euro. Irish Debit cards and all major credit cards a widely accepted in Copenhagen.

Lost/Stolen Passport

If your Irish passport is lost/stolen, you should first contact your airline or tour operator and check whether they will accept a police report or any other ID you may have in order to facilitate your return journey.

If required the Embassy of Ireland in Copenhagen (Østbanegade 21, 2100 Copenhagen can issue an Emergency Travel Document (ETC). Please bring

Materials required:

• Completed passport application form
• Four passport photos
• Previous passport or other photo ID (driving licence, credit card etc.)
• Any other ID documentation available (credit card, health insurance etc.)
• Long form birth certificate or copy faxed from General Register Office / Garda Station
• Police report if passport has been lost or stolen
• Ticket/proof of travel arrangements

Additional documents for minors:

• Consent of both parents as per normal passport application
• Long form birth certificate or copy faxed from General Register Office / Garda Station
• Photo ID of guardians

Fee:

The fee must be paid by cash (bring exact change) or by MobilePay at the Embassy.

• Normal fee: 230 DKK
• Out of hours fee (ETC+1hr): 830 DKK (plus 600 DKK per hour thereafter if applicable)
