St Brigid’s Day 2020: “Breaking Barriers” webinar

On 1 February, Ireland celebrates St. Brigid’s Day. For many years, this day, which originates in the pre-Christian Celtic celebration of Imbolc, has represented hope, renewal, fertility and the feminine.

St. Brigid of Kildare is Ireland’s only female patron saint and she led an extraordinary life as a popular leader and a peacemaker. This year, the Embassy celebrated St. Brigid’s Day by organising a webinar featuring the stories and opinions of three other extraordinary Irish women – Mary Harney (Ireland’s first female Tánaiste), Mary Lawlor (UN Special Rapporteur for Human Rights Defenders) and Anne Anderson (Ireland’s first female Ambassador to the USA and to the EU).

The event was moderated by renowned Colombian journalist and author Claudia Palacios and featured music from the talented Katie James.

El 1 de febrero Irlanda celebra el día de Santa Brígida. Este día, que se originó en la fiesta precristiana de Imbolc, ha simbolizado durante mucho tiempo la esperanza, la renovación, la fertilidad y lo femenino.

Santa Brígida de Kildare es la santa patrona de Irlanda y llevó una vida extraordinaria como líder y pacificadora. Este año, conmemoramos su día con un conversatorio en que escuchamos las voces y argumentos de otras mujeres extraordinarias de Irlanda – Mary Harney (Ex Vice Primera Ministra de Irlanda), Mary Lawlor (Relatora Especial de la ONU para los defensores de DDHH) y Anne Anderson (Primera Embajadora irlandesa ante los EEUU y la UE).

El evento fue moderado por la renombrada periodista y escritora colombiana, Claudia Palacios. También contamos con la participación musical de Katie James.
