Declaration from the European Commission, France and Ireland on recent infants’ Salmonella illnesses

Alerted by consumers’ complaints, the French authorities reported 4 cases of Salmonellosis in infants to the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF case number 2018-2152) on 27 July 2018. These cases involved infants that were being fed on infant formula manufactured in Ireland. The matter was immediately investigated by the Irish and French authorities operating in close cooperation. All tests on the product and on the related infant formula plant were negative for Salmonella. Thus, after thorough investigation, no contamination to the infant formula was detected and no link of the infants’ illnesses and the infant formula was established. The case is therefore closed.
