Irish community in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos
The Irish community in Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos has grown rapidly over the last number of years, and there are over now over one thousand Irish living and working in the region.
Over 26,000 Irish visitors travel to Vietnam each year, and we have a resident Irish community of over 1,000 who are particularly active in education and in business.

For Irish community activities in Vietnam, GAA clubs are the most active organisations, welcoming Irish, Vietnamese and International players, and organising regular matches and community events throughout the year. The following clubs are active in Vietnam:

While the numbers of Irish in Cambodia and Laos are smaller, the Irish expat population is growing. Irish people are working in a wide range of sectors in these countries, from hospitality and tourism to teaching and development work. The Embassy in Hanoi provides support to the Irish community in Cambodia and Laos, and to community activities there.
‘Cairde Khmer’ (Cambodian Friends) are one of the newest GAA clubs in Asia. In March 2018, Cairde Khmer hosted their first ever GAA games, including hurling, in Cambodia, with women’s and men’s teams travelling from Thailand and Vietnam to participate.
