Doing Business with Ireland

We offer support to Irish citizens interested in doing business in Tanzania to promote trade, tourism and inward investment.

With a population of 65 million, abundant natural resources and a historic and projected economic growth rate of 7%, Tanzania offers an exciting and growing market. Private investment in the country, while low in the early 2000s, has now grown to between 14-18% of GDP over the last 5 years.

The Government of Tanzania welcomes foreign investment and is actively working to improve the business environment for all. However, a number of challenges remain which are identified in global and regional reports. These include underdeveloped infrastructure, limited availability of skilled labour, difficulties in accessing land, high interest rates and cumbersome bureaucracy. Tanzania Investment Centre and other organs of government are engaged in support investors new to the market. 

At present, there are less than a dozen Irish companies active in Tanzania. These companies are active in sectors such as engineering, infrastructure, human resources and telecommunications. In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of Irish companies seeking information about the Tanzanian market.
