The Embassy’s History
Find out about the Embassy's history, including the establishment of diplomatic relations and some of our former Ambassadors.
Ireland and Norway have long had a strong cultural and historical link, with several of Ireland's most prominent cities being former Viking settlements. Following the establishment of the State, relations between Ireland and Norway soon became formalised with the signature of a number of bilateral treaties on transport and taxation from the late 1940's onwards. Norway established a diplomatic mission in Dublin in 1983 and the current Ambassador is Her Excellency Mari Skåre.
The Irish Embassy to Norway was established in 2000 and has been in its current location at Haakon VIIs gate since 2002.
