 Information for Applicants

 

For those resident in Nigeria and Ghana visa applications will not be accepted if submitted directly to the Visa Office. All residents of Nigeria or Ghana must submit applications through VFS.

VFS have locations in Abuja, Lagos and Accra. VFS is open, in all three locations, for applicants to book appointments. 

Residents of Senegal or Côte d’Ivoire should courier their applications to the Embassy.

 

We are currently in receipt of larger than usual numbers of visa applications, therefore it is advised that you submit your application at minimum eight weeks prior to your intended travel dates.

 

Visa Application process

-          Create your application online here. Please record your eight digit application number as this will be used to track your application throughout the process

-          Consult the Irish Immigration Service website to ensure you have all the necessary documents for your application. Different visa types require different documentation.

-          When you have completed the above steps, book an appointment with VFS to submit your physical documents.

-          For those resident in Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire applications must be sent to the Embassy by courier.

Current single entry visa fee: €60

Current multiple entry visa fee: €100

Current transit visa fee: €25

You need to check if you need an Irish visa on the website of the Irish Immigration Service.

Please note that Ireland is not party to the Schengen Agreement, and a Schengen visa or residence permit does not entitle you to travel to Ireland without a visa.

Unless you qualify for the short stay visa waiver programme or have a visa issued as part of the British Irish Visa Scheme (BIVS), a valid UK visa does not entitle you to travel to Ireland without a visa.

If your application has been refused, you will be sent a letter outlining the reasons for refusal.

If you still wish to travel to Ireland, you can appeal this decision within two months of receiving the refusal notice.

The Embassy applies a zero tolerance policy with respect to fraudulent applications. An application containing a deception such as a forged document, a document containing false information or information withheld from an application (such as a previous visa refusal) may result in your application being refused without the prospect of appeal. If the application was submitted as part of a group, all applications in that group maybe refused without appeal. Where applications are rejected on the grounds of a deception, a 5-year ban may also be applied.

I understand that any false or misleading information , or false supporting documentation may result in the refusal of my application may be refused and I may be prevented from making further visa applications for a period of up to 5 years. An appeal, against the decision to refuse to grant the visa sought, may not be permitted.

How to apply

You must submit the following documents in person to your nearest Visa Facilitation Services Global (VFS) Office:

All documents must be:

  • original
  • legible
  • verifiable
  • in English or Irish, or translated with a certified translation
  • not in envelopes or folders

You must also submit photocopies of all documents including every page of your passport. Ensure you separate original documents from photocopied documents. Application decisions and original documentation will be returned to you. You must submit a prepaid envelope along with your application. You can get a prepaid envelope at the Visa Facilitation Services Global (VFS) office.

Fingerprints are taken for applicants aged 6 years and over. The Visa Facilitation Services Global (VFS) Office sends your application to the Embassy Visa Office. We process it and decide whether or not to issue your visa.

Child Applications

The child's parent or guardian should be present when the child's fingerprints are taken. If the parent/guardian is unable to attend let us know we will give you instructions.

We do not accept:

  • micro-finance statements
  • mortgage statements
  • statements from thrift and savings societies

Make sure your application is complete. We may request extra documentation and or information.

We can refuse applications if:

  • your documents are not complete
  • your documents are not translated into English or accompanied by notarised translation
  • we cannot verify the information you supplied

There is no Visa Facilitation Services Global (VFS) office in the Ivory Coast. You can send your application by courier or post to the Embassy.

  • Senegal

There is no Visa Facilitation Services Global (VFS) office in Senegal. You can use the Visa Facilitation Services Global (VFS) office in Accra (Ghana) or send your application by courier or post to the Embassy.

Payment Details

For applications submitted in Nigeria and Ghana through the VFS offices, visa fees are payable in the local currency equivalent of €60 euro for a single entry visa or €100 euro for a multi-entry visa. In the case of applications sent to us by courier from Senegal and the Ivory Coast, contact us for details on how to pay the fee.

  • Visa fees are non-refundable
  • VFS charges its own visa processing fee in addition to the amounts indicated above
