Irish State Agencies
Irish State Agencies
The Embassy works with a number of Irish state agencies to pursue opportunities to enhance the political and economic relationship between Ireland and Italy and promote Ireland and the Irish Arts.
This includes work to:
- Support Irish companies who want to access the Italian market
- Provide general advice on doing business locally and, through our network of contacts, pursue opportunities that will benefit Ireland
- Work to secure market access for Irish products in key sectors
- Promote Ireland as a location for tourism and for investment
Working with the right expertise in relevant state agencies is part of our successful strategy.
The Ambassador chairs the local market team which consists of Bord Bia, Enterprise Ireland, Tourisim Ireland and the IDA Ireland.

Visa applications from Libya
All visa applications from those resident in Libya are processed at the Embassy of Ireland in Abu Dhabi.
Applicants resident in Libya should first complete their visa application form on-line. Once the online application is completed, applicants resident in Libya will be directed to send their supporting documentation directly to the Irish Embassy in Abu Dhabi for processing.

Ireland at the UN
Ireland at the UN in Rome
The Embassy in Rome also serves as the Permanent Representation of Ireland to the three specialised food and agriculture agencies of the United Nations that are based in Rome:
The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) is the principal UN agency with responsibilities in the fields of agriculture, fisheries, forestry, and rural development. It works towards the alleviation of hunger and poverty through promoting agricultural development, food security, and raising nutritional standards. In terms of Ireland’s engagement with FAO, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine is the lead Department and pays Ireland's annual subscription to the organisation's regular programme budget. Irish Aid, the development co-operation division of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), also supports some of the operational activities of FAO through extra-budgetary contributions.
The World Food Programme (WFP) is the food aid agency of the UN and is the world’s largest humanitarian organisation. It provides emergency food supplies in disaster situations as well as food aid to support social and economic development in poor countries. WFP is an important partner for Ireland's humanitarian aid programme. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine both provide cash contributions to WFP. Ireland’s contributions to WFP have increased significantly in recent years.
The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) was established to finance agricultural development projects primarily for food production in developing countries. Through low-interest loans and grants, IFAD works with governments to develop and finance programmes and projects that enable rural poor people to overcome poverty themselves. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) contributes to the Fund through replenishments which take place approximately every three years.
The Ambassador is the Permanent Representative of Ireland to these organisations.
