22 December: Christmas & New Year's period opening hours
Happy Christmas & New Year from the Irish Embassy.
15 December: A Joycean Breakfast in celebration of the centenary of the publication of 'A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man'
On the morning of Thursday 15th December. Ambassador Mulhall and his wife Greta hosted a breakfast event to celebrate the centenary of the publication of 'A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man'. Guests listened to readings from a number of Joyce's works including, of course, Ulysses, and 'A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man'.
08 December: 2017 Emigrant Support Programme Funding
The Irish Government, through the Emigrant Support Programme, provides funding to non-profit organisations which support and connect the Irish community in Britain.
07 December: Minister Flanagan visits London for a series of Brexit meetings
The Minister for Foreign Affairs an Trade, Charlie Flanagan, was in London on Wednesday 7 December for a series of meetings, with the key focus being on Brexit. The Minister also discussed broader Northern Ireland issues and hosted an event marking the conclusion of the 1916 Centenary programme in the UK.
07 December: Minister Flanagan wraps up the Ireland 2016 commemorations programme at the Embassy
On Wednesday 7 December Ambassador Mulhall welcomed the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Charlie Flanagan, to the Embassy of Ireland, London, to mark the end of the Ireland 2016 commemorations programme for Ireland and the Irish in Britain.
07 December: A letter to the Irish community in Britain from Ambassador Mulhall
Ambassador Mulhall writes a letter to the Irish Community about the future of relations between Ireland and Britain and the status of the Irish community in the wake of the Brexit decision.

As Ireland's Ambassador in London, it is a great pleasure for me to represent our Government at this afternoon's session of the British-Irish Parliamentary Assembly and to offer some views on the implications of Brexit for Ireland, for the future of North-South ties in Ireland, for Irish-UK relations and for the European Union.
23 November: Passport Office London – new passport appointment service
The Embassy’s Passport Office now operates an appointment service. This new service allows customers who need to travel within 6 weeks to book online, a guaranteed time slot before visiting the Embassy of Ireland Passport Office at 114a Cromwell Road, London, SW7 4ES.

27 October: Emigrant Support Programme at the Embassy
Ambassador Dan Mulhall hosted an event with the Irish community organisations from across Britain who received 2016 Emigrant Support Programme funding.
18 October: Irish writers and the Easter Rising, a talk delivered at Ushaw College, University of Durham
It is a genuine pleasure for me to be at Ushaw College this evening under the auspices of the Centre for Catholic Studies to speak about Irish writers and the Easter Rising of 1916. It is a special privilege to be here in this historic building towards the end of this centenary year when we have remembered those who fought and died - in Ireland and on the Somme - during that fateful year of war and revolution, 1916.
14 October: President Higgins visit to London, October 2016
On Friday 14 october 2016 Ambassador Mulhall hosted the launch of President Michael D. Higgins book of his speeches entitled 'When Ideas Matter' at the Embassy. Later that evening, president Higgins gave a lecture on Irish poet and revolutionary, Eva Gore-Booth, at the headquarters of the Trade Union Congress.
6 October: ‘Wellbeing through Participation’ - An event to mark World Mental Health Day
On Thursday, 6th October the Irish Embassy in London hosted an event to mark World Mental Health Day. An evening of discussion with the fitting theme of ‘Wellbeing through participation’ was raising awareness of mental health issues and mobilising efforts in support of mental health in the Irish community in Britain– in line with the objectives of the World Health Organisation’s Mental Health Day.

On 23 June, the UK electorate went to the polls to decide whether the UK should remain as a member of the European Union, or if it should leave.
19 June: Embassy Lecture - the trial and appeal of Roger Casement
On 19th July, the Ambassador of Ireland Dan Mulhall hosted a discussion at the Embassy with His Honour Judge Anthony Bradbury, on the trial and appeal of Roger Casement and the painting it inspired, ‘High Treason’ by John Lavery.
The event commemorated the life and legacy of Irish patriot and British diplomat, Roger Casement and forms part of the Embassy’s Ireland’s 2016 Commemorative Lecture Series. You can listen in to our podcast.
14 June: Embassy marks the significance of the Battle of the Somme
As part of Ireland’s 2016 Programme of commemorations, the Ambassador of Ireland Dan Mulhall hosted an event to mark the significance of the Battle of the Somme at the Embassy of Ireland London on 14th June 2016.
2 June: Embassy Lecture – the life & humanitarian legacy of Roger Casement
On 2nd June, as part of the Embassy’s Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme lecture series, the Embassy hosted a panel discussion on the life and humanitarian legacy of Roger Casement.
Ambassador hosted a panel discussion with Prof Sean McConville, Professor of Law and Public Policy at Queen Mary University of London, who spoke about the paradoxical nature of Casement as a figure in the Irish revolution, and Shami Chakrabarti, former director of British civil liberties advocacy organisation Liberty, who spoke about Casement’s role as a humanitarian and early human rights activist. The discussion was followed by a lively Q&A.

When I was a student of history at University College Cork during the 1970s, my study of Irish history was dominated by the 'Anglo-Irish' dimension. I specialised in 19th and 20th century history from the Act of Union of 1800 to the achievement and consolidation of Irish independence in the 1920s and 1930s. My studies spotlighted Anglo-Irish relations as a perennial problem for both nations. Even the description of Irish literature in English as Anglo-Irish literature was a disputed concept.

It is a pleasure to be here this evening at Glasgow University, a place I came to know well during my time as Ireland's first Consul General in Scotland from 1998 to 2001. I want to talk this evening about a person, an event, a poem, and the connection between them. The person is WB Yeats, the event the Easter Rising of 1916 and the poem is 'Easter 1916'.

The Easter Rising has produced its fair share of fine writing and none better than Yeats's great history poem, Easter 1916, which provides a fascinating insight into this seminal moment in Irish history.

19 March: 'Inspiring Ireland’ 1916 Collection Day and Open Day
We hosted an ‘Inspiring Ireland’ 1916 Collection Day and Open Day on Saturday 19 March 2016, with over 200 visitors to the Embassy. Organised in partnership with the Digital Repository of Ireland and Irish in Britain, it was the first ever Open Day held at Embassy London and supported by the Ireland 2016 Global and Diaspora Programme.
19 March [11am to 4pm] Public Memorabilia Collection Day - Embassy of Ireland, London
On March 19, 2016, Digital Repository of Ireland will hold a public memorabilia ‘collection day’ in London to enable members of the public in Britain to share their personal objects (such as letters, diaries, photographs and ephemera) as well as family stories related to 1916, and to have this material digitised by experts, free of charge.

12 March: Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day on the London Underground
Transport for London (TfL) and the Irish Embassy are bringing Irish music and poems to the London Underground to coincide with St. Patrick’s Day festivities. This is the first time such a programme is taking place and coincides with London’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival.

On Tuesday 1st March, Ambassador Dan Mulhall hosted a panel discussion on the Women of 1916. This was the third event of the Embassy lecture series, which forms part of the Embassy’s Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme. The event also marked International Women’s Day.

19 February: Ambassador's lecture on 1916 - University of Oxford
Ambassador Mulhall delivered a lecture on 'Easter 1916: what happened, why and how did it change Ireland?', at the invitation of the University of Oxford’s Bodleian Libraries, on 12th February. The lecture by the Ambassador is part of a wider collaboration with the University of Oxford’s Bodleian Libraries and History Faculty to mark the centenary of 1916 in Oxford.

22 January -3 April: Photographers’ Gallery London – Easter Rising 1916 – the Sexton Collection
The Embassy of Ireland and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s Ireland 2016 Global and Diaspora Fund are pleased to support the Photographers’ Gallery in London display ‘Easter Rising 1916’ - an exhibition drawn from Sean Sexton's photographic collection and curated by Luke Dodd. This exhibition investigates the significant role played by photography in informing the national consciousness that led to Irish independence, using the 1916 rebellion as a central focal point. It features approximately eighty rarely seen photographs and ephemera, including souvenir postcards, albums, stereoscopic views, press and military photographs.
