Bloomsday 2017
Bloomsday celebrates Thursday, 16 June 1904, which is the day depicted in James Joyce’s novel Ulysses. The day is named after Leopold Bloom, the novel's central character. The novel follows the life and thoughts of Bloom and a host of other characters – real and fictional – from 8am on 16 June 1904 through to the early hours of the following morning. Bloom’s lunch, in chapter eight, was a Gorgonzola sandwich and a glass of burgundy at Davy Byrne’s pub in Duke Street in Dublin. Source: The James Joyce Centre, Dublin.
Join us for the 2017 celebrations of Bloomsday on 16 June at the Embassy from 12:30-2:30pm for a staged reading from Ulysses presented by the Curious Fox bookshop, a reading by poet Terry McDonagh and a performance of music from Ken Shakin's opera 'The Wandering', as well as the traditional gorgonzola sandwiches and burgundy, of course.
