The Embassy’s History
History of the Irish Embassy in Egypt
The Embassy in Cairo was opened in 1975. Diplomatic relations with Egypt were established the same year. The Embassy is effectively a regional Mission as it covers three other countries in the Middle East and North Africa (Lebanon, Syria and Jordan) as well as the Arab League. Up until 2015, the Embassy also covered relations with Sudan but the accreditation has now been taken over by the Embassy of Ireland in Nairobi.
