Bernard's Summer School
The traditional Bernard's Summer School will take place in Prague from 13 to 19 August 2016.
Bernard’s Summer School (BSS) is a week long international educational event which has been held annually in Prague for the past 15 years. It has been founded and organised by Václav Bernard and his family who are well known popularisers of Irish dancing and Irish culture in the Czech Republic.
BSS 2016 offers a broad selection of Irish dance and music lessons including sean nós singing and Irish language classes. There will be accomplished artists from Ireland among the tutors. Supporting programme offers additional dance and music events and entertainment. Highlight of the week are Wednesday Ceilí evening in the historic New Town Hall and the Friday final performance with showcases from participants and tutors in Ponec Theatre. Both evenings will offer live music. This year will be presented by award winning trio of talented musicians from Ireland - Sean McElwain, Caoimhin Ó Fearghail and Dónal McCague, who will also lead some of the music lessons during the week. Irish set dancing and sean nós dancing lessons will be taught by Mick Mulkerrin.
BSS 2016 venue is located in the Botičská primary school, near Vltava river bank and a short distance from the historic city centre and popular tourist sights. Full selection of lessons and detailed information can be found at the Bernard's Summer School website.
