Women, Dreamers & Ireland’s Rising
Women, Dreamers & Ireland’s Rising
Bondi Pavilion, Sydney
20 March 2016 - 1pm to 7.30pm
In the spirit of the 'Remember' and 'Celebrate' themes of Ireland 2016, the Consulate in Sydney will support a day of talks, music, poetry and drama dedicated to the women and artists who played a role in the Easter Rising and its aftermath.
The event will remember and celebrate the women, poets, playwrights and musicians who were directly involved in the Rising or responded through their passion and art to the cause of Irish independence. The event programme will include musical performances, vocal and instrumental, to evoke the historical period and pay tribute to the Rising. Documentary extracts showing the significance of the contribution of women to the Easter Rising will be screened. The importance of Australian connections will be highlighted through discussion, musical contributions and a rehearsed reading of a new Australian play by Maeliosa Stafford and members of O’Punksky’s Theatre Company. Performances and readings of key scenes from the works of O'Casey, Behan and Yeats will also feature. There will be crafts, storytelling and musical entertainment for children.
Tickets are available from Eventbrite. For more information follow this event on Twitter or Facebook.
