1916 – 2016 Commemoration Programme – Sydney
Legacy Projects
Last year, the Consulate General of Ireland in Sydney was delighted to support and promote an exciting programme of events and projects to commemorate the 1916 Easter Rising in New South Wales.
As part of this commemoration programme, the Consulate supported two projects which will serve as a legacy of the commemoration for future generations.
Anzacs and the Rising, produced by Little Day Productions, is a fascinating one off documentary film looking at the little known involvement of Australian and New Zealand soldiers in the Rising. Using archive footage and interviews, it brings to life a little told story, highlighting the many ways in which the histories of Ireland and Australia are linked. The documentary can be viewed in the video below.
The brainchild of Dr. Enda Murray, the Irish Australian Song Library is an online resource for anyone interested in Irish music and provides lyrics, music, history and video-clips of performances of well-known, and less well-known, Irish and Irish Australian songs. The Library, which is hosted on the website of the Irish National Association, is an interactive tool which allows users to upload songs they come across.
