Ireland-Brazil Relations

Ireland and Brazil enjoy excellent relations, politically, culturally and economically. Diplomatic relations were established with Brazil in 1975, and Embassies were opened in Dublin in 1992 and in Brasília in 2001. The relationship between Brazil and Ireland has further developed in recent times with the opening of the Consulate General of Ireland in São Paulo in March 2015.

The Irish Community living and working in Brazil continues to grow and includes business people, students on university exchanges and Irish people who have simply decided to call Brazil home. Their vibrant and unique contribution continues to make a positive contribution to our country, whether by building economic development, raising awareness of our culture or by creating a positive image of Ireland here in Brazil.

New links are being built, between our two countries, with Ireland's participation in the Ciência sem Fronteiras programme. By the time the first phase of the programme ends, over 3000 Brazilian students will have studied in Ireland and we have seen Ireland become the 4th most popular destination for Brazilian student in the world. We are determined to build on this and to further enhance our ties with Brazil in the period ahead, demonstrated by the Irish Government's recent decision to open a new Consulate General in São Paulo.
